About me

The Thinking Meat Project is the outgrowth of my efforts to understand...well, the problems and joys of being thinking meat. I'm not an expert in any of the fields of study involved, just a curious and reasonably intelligent amateur who likes to read about these things. The information here is as accurate as I can make it. If you feel that I've gotten my facts wrong, please write and tell me about it (mary at thinkingmeat dot com).

A little more about me

  • Day job: Technical editor

  • Education: I have some, namely a BS degree from Indiana University (1988) in astrophysics with a minor in mathematics. I'm also a strong believer in ongoing informal education.

  • Religion: I was raised Catholic, but have long since left the Church. I consider myself to be, as they say, spiritual but not religious. What exactly that means is sure to be the topic of an essay here sooner or later.

  • Family: I'm the oldest of seven children and the mother of two grown sons, whose curiosity, intelligence, and humor have enriched my life (and this site) considerably.

  • Languages: Sadly, I'm really only monolingual so far. I have studied Latin, French, and Slovene.

  • Myers-Briggs personality type: INFP

  • Totem animal: The bear

  • Other interests: Amateur astronomy, opera, baseball, chocolate
